Justin Burtnett acts as an outside general counsel for multiple small and mid-size businesses, assisting them with their employment and litigation needs. Justin acts not only as lawyer, but as a trusted advisor, to businesses by helping them with legal issues. In the area of employment, Justin advises management on legal matters related to employments issues, as well as compliance with applicable local, state, and federal employment regulations, laws, and ordinances. As a litigator, over the course of his nearly 20 years of practice, Justin acted as lead counsel in several trials, both on his own and as leader of a trial team.
Justin represents clients throughout Illinois and the surrounding states not only in the courtroom, but in front of bodies ranging from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR) to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals to multi-day arbitrations. He has defended and /or prosecuted claims of race, gender, and national origin discrimination, Illinois Wage Act claims, trade secret and intellectual property claims, breach of contract matters, and fraud claims, to name a few.
Before joining Hardt, Stern & Kayne, P.C., Justin litigated at small firms in Chicago in areas ranging from simple negligence to large aviation law claims to Plaintiff-side employment law claims.
